Humor City Board Game

Everyone has a board game idea, right? Mine was first documented during a college accounting exam then brought to life in 2017. However, play testing sessions in 2017-18 exposed fundamental flaws in mechanics that put the project on hold.

Concept

Humor City is a super-hilarious board game that uses punchline joke questions and answers (organized by category into separate decks) as the primary mechanic to extend play. If a player doesn’t know the answer, at least their turn always ends with a good laugh.

Since Humor City collects only the best of the best jokes (many of which are often the very worst of the worst), players must agree on ALL categories prior to play to avoid offending sensitivities (see disclaimer).

Objective

ON YOUR WAY to cottage country for the big long weekend party, your mission is to drive into Humor City, pick up your friends, groceries and booze (or non-alcoholic beverages) before driving back out onto the highway in a race to arrive first at the choicest cottage in cottage country.

Winning the Game

First player’s vehicle to collect all 7 pins (5 different colour friends and separate grocery and booze pins) leaves Humor City for cottage country. The first player(s) to arrive at the choicest cottage wins. 2nd place finisher(s) get the “Crap Shack”, with 3rd place finisher(s) landing a camping spot down by the toxic swamp.

Player(s) is pluralized since finish locations can accommodate more than one vehicle when agreed to in advance (depending on number of players). For example, a group of 8 players can agree the first three finishers stay at the choicest cottage with the first arrival claiming the master bedroom with private ensuite with hot tub. Forth and fifth place finishers will occupy the Crap Shack, with sixth, seventh, and eighth place finishers heading to Shady Acres campground. Play ends once first and second finishing positions are determined.
